Stuctural Integration

(SI)

This therapy is a series of 10-12 sessions that treats the whole body from superficial to deep, toe to head.  You will be both passive and active during these treatments, so you will be asked to remain semi-clothed in order to move comfortably throughout the room (see What to Wear below).  While standing, you will receive a postural assessment at the beginning and end of each treatment. You may be asked to walk or move in some way, so that your body in motion can also be assessed. Once on the treatment table, a large portion of this therapy will use Myofascial Restoration techniques to free space in the body and introduce movement where movement has been forgotten.  You will be asked to participate by moving in various ways while on the table; for instance, you may be asked to point and flex your foot while your lower leg is being treated. Portions of this therapy are also done in a seated or standing position, and breathing and awareness exercises are utilized. The goals of this therapy are to encourage your structure into better alignment (good posture), and to give you a sense of greater connection with your body.

Structural Integration is ideal for... EVERYONE!  Who hasn’t disconnected from their body in one way or another over the years? This therapy is great for anyone with postural issues - both medical, like scoliosis, and compensatory, like sitting at a desk 8-hours a day.  It’s great for athletes looking for a competitive edge or simply wishing to improve their skills (recommended during your off season or during a period of lighter training).  It’s great for the aging individual that finds themselves stumbling over things more frequently or constantly bumping into the corner of that pesky coffee table (sound familiar?); and of course, it’s great for anyone looking for an overall sense of well-being.  While Structural Integration does not specifically address pain, pain relief is often a happy side effect of this therapy.

Because Structural Integration incorporates Myofascial Restoration techniques into its therapy, it may not be ideal for those hypersensitive to touch.  Please call to further discuss your individual needs.

What to Wear:  please bring with you, "viewing clothes," for each session.  For women, this will be something two-piece.  Good examples are bra & underwear, two-piece bathing suit, sports bra or spaghetti strap tank top and workout shorts.  DO NOT BRING AN UNDERWIRE BRA.  For men, this will be briefs, boxer briefs, workout shorts, Speedos.  DO NOT BRING COTTON BOXERS OR SWIM TRUNKS.

Clothing shoulder be flexible with no snaps, buttons, zippers, and as few to no pockets as possible.  Therapist should be able to move material as necessary to get to all areas of the body.  If you have any questions please call.
